Size Guide
While the size requirements for storing personal belongings may vary depending on the items being stored and the renter's organization skills, the guide below can be used as a starting point to help determine the appropriate storage size.
Step One - Select Your Item Sizes
Put together a list of items that can fit in boxes and what size boxes. Don't forget to include items that cannot fit in boxes
Step Two - Categorize Your Items
Make a quick list of items you plan to store, including furniture, appliances, and any awkwardly-shaped items that will not be packed in boxes
Step Three - Categorize Your Item Quantities
Determine how many boxes of different sizes you'll be using. Make a list of all the pieces of furniture and other items you need to store in your unit
Step Four - Estimate What Size Unit You Need
Now that you have compiled a list of how many boxes and items you need to store in your unit, use our Size Guide Breakdown below that gives tips and suggestions on what size unit you may need
Store a single bedroom or office
Smaller 5x10 units are great for seasonal gear, small furnishings, and office supplies.
Our 5x10 storage units are the perfect size for smaller furniture equivalent to what goes in a bedroom or a small office—small yet mighty. Comparable to a fourth a standard garage, these units can easily accommodate the belongings of a one-bedroom in a home.
Ideal for storing:
- Furniture like dressers, side tables, mattress sets, and coffee or nightstands
- Electronics and musical instruments, decorations, pictures, lamps, etc.
- Seasonal items such as holiday decorations, festive gear, or pillows
- Office items including chairs, desks, office supply essentials, or small rugs

Store a one bedroom home
Medium 10x10 units are similar to one side of a garage. Good for household furniture, travel gear, and office furniture.
Our 10x10, 100-square-foot storage units are the perfect size for larger furniture or equipment—not too big, not too small. Comparable to half a standard garage, these units can easily accommodate the belongings of a one-bedroom home.
Ideal for storing:
- Furniture like sofas, tables, dressers, mattress sets, and coffee or nightstands
- Electronics and musical instruments
- Seasonal items such as garden tools, bicycles, skis, and camping gear
- Office items including desks, chairs, and shelving

Store a three/four bedroom home
Larger 10 x 20 and 10 x 30 units are similar to an entire garage. Great for large pieces of furniture, large appliances, and large outdoor equipment like grills or small boats.
Our 10x20 storage units, offering 200 square feet of space, are ideal if you’re transitioning between homes, preparing your house for sale, or undertaking a major renovation. Comparable to a small garage, these units can easily hold the belongings of a three- or four-bedroom house.
Great for storing:
- Large household items like sectional sofas, dining tables, mattress sets, dressers, and entertainment centers
- Major appliances including washers, dryers, and refrigerators
- Big musical instruments and electronics, such as pianos and televisions
- Outdoor gear such as lawnmowers, grills, bicycles, skis, and camping equipment
- Business inventory and office furnishings like desks, chairs, and shelving units

Store a four/five bedroom home and/or a large garage
For those in need of significant storage space, our 10x40 units provide 400 square feet, similar to a large garage. These units are spacious enough to accommodate the belongings of a four- or five-bedroom house.
Ideal for storing:
- Items that are difficult to pack in boxes
- Oversized furniture like sectional sofas, entertainment centers, and bedroom or dining sets
- Major appliances including washers, dryers, and refrigerators
- Outdoor gear such as lawnmowers, grills, bicycles, and small boats or canoes
- Business inventory and office furnishings such as desks, chairs, and shelving

Outdoor Parking/Lot Spaces
Free up garage space and protect your car, boat, or RV from the weather with our parking spaces and vehicle storage options. Depending on the location, we also offer lot spaces to hold pre-rented storage containers

STORAGE UNITS FOR OVERSIZED BELONGINGS
Mattresses
This obviously depends on which mattress size you’re storing. Smaller mattresses will fit in almost any storage unit, while queen and king-sized mattresses won’t fit in smaller units.
- Twin and full-size mattress: A 5×5 will easily accommodate all mattresses smaller than a queen-size mattress.
- Queen-size mattress: Though you might be able to squeeze a queen-size mattress into a 5×5, it’s going to be a really tight fit. A 5×10 will be much better.
- King-size mattress: There’s no chance you’ll get a king-size mattress into a 5×5, but like the queen-size mattress, the king will fit nicely in a 5×10 or larger.

WHAT SIZE STORAGE UNIT DO I NEED?
- Studio or one-bedroom apartment - 5x10 to 5x15 storage unit
- Two-bedroom apartment - 10x10 to 10x15 storage unit
- Two-bedroom house - 10x20 storage unit
- Three-bedroom house - 10x25 storage unit
- Four-bedroom house - 10x30 storage unit
- Car - 10x20 storage unit
- Motorcycle - 5x10 storage unit
HOW TALL ARE STORAGE UNITS?
Storage units are typically 8 feet tall. Select units have 10-foot ceilings (and taller) to accommodate unique storage needs like storing larger vehicles. Facilities in large cities like New York City often offer reduced-height storage units that offer the same square footage at lower prices.
